Georg Forster Lecture

On an annual basis, SOCUM offers a Georg Forster Lecture fellowship to excellent and internationally recognized researchers. One of the lecture series’ aims is to increase the visibility and scientific excellence of the cooperating disciplines and to present SOCUM’s interdisciplinary research to a broader audience.

Abstract

Up to now, the Georg Forster Lecture has been held by: Karin Knorr Cetina (2009), Ernesto Garcón Valdés (2010), Bruno Latour (2011) and Fredric Jameson (2012).

Georg Forster

The lecture series is named after the anthropologist and natural scientist Johann Georg Adam Forster (1754 – 1794) who participated in James Cook’s second circumnavigation of the earth. In Mainz, he acted as a republican and was director of the university library.
